Are you an IT professional? Looking for an upgrade in your career? If yes, then we are here to provide you assistance towards the same. In this post we are going to introduce you to big data and how data analytics can solve the issue and what you need to do for getting there.
What is Big Data
In nutshell, Big Data as the name implies is an enormous amount of data. So large that it is literally impossible to process it into information by using the traditional methods. In the early 2000s, there were three Vs that were coined for Big Data. And they are
- Volume
The data that is being collected since computer science first started in the 60s and 70s has become huge in volume. Business transactions, IoT devices, social media, etc. all have added to the volume immensely. This voluminous data is associated with Big Data.
- Velocity
Not only volume but also the velocity at which the data is being consumed or used also adds to the definition of Big Data.
- Variety
The variety part is also included in the definition of Big Data. There are lots of data and they all belong to various categories such as email data, numeric data, text data, videos, audio data and list continues.
All the data which fulfills the three Vs fall into the category of Big Data.
We have so much data! What are we going to do about it? We can do one thing that is the process the data into meaningful insights by using Data Analytics. More on it in the next section.
What is Data Analytics?
Data analytics is a new field of science in itself. It incorporates the processing of data by using tools such as R and Python to make models and get important insights out of raw data.
You can do a lot of things with this newly emerging field of science. You can improve your business, you can forecast the weather, and you can improve your economy as a whole and much more.
In this the general outline is in the following:
- Define data requirements
- Collect the data
- Wrangle the raw data or bring some uniformity in the raw data for it to be processed
Then there are types of data analytics which are categorized into four basic types and they are in the following:
- Descriptive Analytics
In this one, the description of the data is made. In other words, what has happened with the data over time is being described. Whether sales are up, was the rainfall appropriate, did the economy does good, etc.
- Diagnostic analytics
It analyses the ‘why’ part after processing the data.
- Predictive analytics
Predictive analytics analyses and predicts what’s going to happen after processing the data.
- Prescriptive analytics
This type of analytics suggests what measures you ought to take if something happens.
Given the possibilities that Data Analytics can do for us, it is an immensely interesting aspect with unforeseen possibilities. We have zettabytes and zettabytes of data and with that, we can solve lot many problems regarding our businesses and economy as a whole with the help of analytics.
If you are wondering how to tap the potential of this science then read on to the next section. Probably you will get what you have been looking for.
How to be a Data Analytics Professional?
As it is a new field so new possibilities are just making it on the horizon. Currently, you can go for a Data Science Analytics certification course from a recognized university and get the required skills to do analytics and choose the right options in analytics whatever interests you.
There are quite a lot of such institutes which provide this course and you can explore all the options, weigh them and then decide what suits you the most.
Hope we could provide you the necessary information that you have been looking for. You can suggest us something or ask for anything that you might find interest in and we would be delighted to help you.
